Just Close Your Eyes

thatsestherly Published on Jan 4, 2013

It's late January 6, 2013.  This was the week of New Year's Eve, the expiration of old U.S. tax cuts that had the country up in arms, and my computer was mostly unstable.  I cut my hair for the new year.  I spent the week reading a lot of Cross Game, Pluto, & raced to finish The First Man (which I eventually did).  Pluto planted some very interesting ideas in my head for an underdeveloped idea that I am for now just calling Nutrino.  I did a lot of sketches of Urasawa's Atom &  a few attempts at various Cross Game characters.  I watched some Home Movies & Cromartie High on my portable DVD player while my computer was down.  I also finished the first book of Dark Angel.  I got myself up to Chapter 2 of From Eroica with Love, Chapter 3 of Cyber 7, and Chapter 9 of Attack on Titan.

Today I watched The Fellowship of the Ring and doodled some characters.  It was mostly depressing not knowing if I would get my computer back up and running.  I also read a few chapters of Daisy Kutter up to Chapter 4.

Today I got out and watched John Carter. It was pretty fun. I had a few criticisms about it, but they mostly pertain to pacing and plot points that divert from the source material. I have no real problems with edit-heavy adaptations, as long as there is something to be gained from the rewrite (i.e. social relevance, better pacing, cultural revision) but I don't really see it in this. I might just let it simmer in my mind until I can really look at it with better appreciation. In the meantime check out the Gods of Mars comic coming out.

On Saturday night I joined Lexxy and friends for a stream of Robocop 1 & 2. I had a damn good time, even though 2 had little saving grace. Frank Miller is a twat.

Haven't been on much of an art jones lately. Sucks. Can't get my mind and body on the same page. Don't know what I need to do to just sit down and create. Time is often going slowly, but slipping between my fingers. Want to win the lottery and take a month off to just travel. Will hit up art hard for 6-9 months. Take break, and then comic full time. Dreams. Sigh.
