I've been drawing He-Man a lot inexplicably. So then I drew a comic.



Earlier in the week I started this portrait of Kippery. She's great. I have some great ideas for comics I want to do now, including resurrecting a bunch of old ideas. I'm really excited to find some time to actually work this month. Wish me luck!

Sinuses sore but still smiling on Sunday

Steve Wolfhard's Lifelong Anxieties is a lullaby for my restless life.

I am now a fan of Rob Davis after reading this astute discussion of raw vs. cooked art.

I really enjoy looking through this gallery if only to marvel at Jeff Cruz's steady growth as a color technician.

Speaking of technicians, did you miss this amazing 1 hour drawing by the Dharb himself? I'm a little sad to hear that diary comics are drawing to a close. But I trust that Dharbin's got something good in store for us.

I've been reading a lot of Stormwatch lately to see how it all boils up to The Authority, which is one of my favorite superhero books. It seems I missed a lot of good stuff. I similarly started reading the Supreme Power GN which I am thoroughly enjoying. I think this grim and gritty turn in superhero comics is the right fit in an intelligent writer's hands. I guess I would rather have the young tykes be interested in Bone, Amulet, Smile, Flight Explorer, or any one of the brilliant young readers books being put out by alternative comic creators. Kids need mysticism, humor, whimsy, exploration, and light-heartedness. The uber-mensch genre just has so little to offer IMO.

I got thoroughly engrossed in Lewis Trondheim's Little Nothings. Delightful, ephemeral just as the days are. Autobio comics seem to fill the shelves of the collector like bottles of wine, each one more palatable with age and distinct from the other. Tonight I'm watching Amarcord. How's your Sunday shaping up?

Speaking of Livejournal, this week the internet fumed at CookSource a free publication for jacking an lj post. This is a reenactment.

And then our buddy Dharbin posted a clever guide to using the AMES.

I've often wondered what really makes me queue up so many things I never get to. Well, here's an answer! Also I really like this Charles Schultz post. I think these two things go a long way in helping me think in the right direction.

Well it's high time for celebration because not only have I hit 100 posts (!!!) but I've begun posting to my new livejournal, and I've somehow finagled Brian Fukushima into not only writing a song about me, but also becoming my 30th follower on twitter! Have an excellent week everybody!

Drawing Upon Experience

I drew a bunch of things this week.

For instance, this girl who appeared as if from ether with no under-drawing, just brush-pen on paper. I'm a little proud of the delivery since I virtually suck at inking.


And then mid-week people I follow were drawing werewolf comics to celebrate the harvest moon. There was also this wonderful Pokemon project Steve Wolfhard began, but to me the werewolf stuff was the stellar stuff of good memories. Also a dog wandered into my work and I had to record it for posterity's sake.


Ripped from the headlines I found out about Sesame Street's difficult decision to axe Katy Perry from their casting call. I'm sure she is utterly devastated that she will not get to hold Elmo close to her bosom.

And then, I read stuff. Rebecca Dart did a page 100 entry about The Hawkline Monster and it made a big enough impression on me to go and find the book. And, no, I don't really read like a dandy in my boxers. Ok. Yes I do.
