Monday April 8:  I made fried rice and worked out, then marathoned the final few issues of Uncanny X-Force v1.  It was a melancholy completion.  Lost In The Vale began!

Tuesday April 9:  Work was unnecessarily complicated and I got home after 5pm.  Had some pasta & watched a little of Monday night's RAW with the boys.  At work I got back into Sweet Tooth.  It's a perfect queue having recently read Roman Muradov's Antler Coffee in Myspace DHP v5.  Dustin Harbin laid out his tools for The Tools Artist's Use.

Wednesday April 10:  Today was a short day.  And then I got back into the office and they tried to drop more bullshit on me, but I wasn't having it.  I'm applying for new jobs today.  Right now I'm going to try to draw some wrestlers while I'm still kind of hot.  Had a good life talk with Adam before bed.

Thursday April 11:  At work today I read a lot of Tin Tin In The Land of the Soviets.  It was more rustic than I expected.  I learned about Tonkutsu Ramen via Little Froggies.

Friday April 12: Already home and drinking apple beer.  Today was the calm after the storm after work.  This week I was the storm, and it was as unnerving as it was empowering.  Today was also the one day out of the work week I didn't read comics at work.  It shouldn't ever be difficult for me to find time to read.  It takes the least amount of effort, and provides such a large input in my creative process.

So far this week my focus has been on working on a secret birthday project for my roommate's son, putting off doing my taxes, and making DVD's.  I learned about Vampybitme this week, followed a lot of Rebecca Tobin's tweets, and listened to a bunch of Smooth McGroove.  It was the week of Margaret Thatcher and Annette Funicello passing, Kobe Bryant's achilles tear, and  then Chi Cheng of the Deftones passed away.

Saturday April 13:  Everybody was gone when I got up, so I had brunch to myself and then got going on my taxes.  My buddy gave me a good tip on filing my state taxes for free so this year I owed nothing, and paid nothing.  It was just about an even year as far as finances go.  We did some barbecue and drank cider beer before slumping at the couch to Knocked Up.  Then everybody went to sleep and I finished the movie by myself and felt a little sentimental.  Also I was kind of sore from our leg work out earlier.  David Alegre Chaos Wolf / Fiona Hsieh Best Art Ever April 12

Sunday April 14:   Went to work right away on my secret birthday project.  Made some good progress and warmed up for a week of drawing.  Even made it out of the house to go swimming.  Today I read about the new Daft Punk album Random Access Memories, and streamed some old cut material "Sky Drive."  Today I also read Guy Davis & Scott Allie's Solomon Kane comic in Myspace DHP #5 and loved it.  I studied his panel composition and pacing and felt smarter for doing it.  Rachel & Sarah's late night tumbles got me interested in reading Getter Robo Go by Ken Ishikawa.

It's December 16, 2012.  This was the week of the Clackamas Town Center Mall shooting and the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy.  This weekend the Hobbit premiered in theaters.

I started the week off hearing about Stuart Immonen's work on The All New X-Men, and by the end of the week I was reading it.  I read Dustin Harbin's Boxes and pondered a little about the months I frequented his journal comic.   I finished my Char Aznable drawing and learned from Brittney Sabo about the Mysterious Universe podcast.  That Monday was the birthday of Ada Lovelace.

This week I did a lot of catching up with Adventure Time, Baman Piderman, and Spera.  In fact, just this Friday a new part of Glass Flowers came out drawn by my new art crush Rachel Morris!  I read 3 chapters of Attack on Titan, and 3 of the original Skullman, and later got about 2 chapters into the newer Skullman manga drawn by Ishimoto.  On Wednesday I finally started reading I Was Kidnapped By Lesbian Pirates From Outerspace and I loved it!  I learned about Urasawa from Rachel.  The Pacific Rim trailer was released.

This week Lacey Green re-educated everybody about slut shaming.  I learned about The Three Old Gods, and I spent some time perusing  the Wikipedia 2013 Year in film.  I think I'm excited for Edgar Wright's new movie End of the World.

It's Halloween season again, and Emily Carrol's got another terrifying tale to tell.

I like JP Coovert's comics. Also Puppy Teeth looks interesting. I'm mostly interest in the work of Kevin Czapiewski and his brother Matt who does Eat That Toast. I also discovered Stuff No One Told Me.

Remember this sketch from last week? I decided in keeping with my New Year's Resolution, and having read an awesome google + thread begun by Dustin Harbin relating to publishing, perseverance, and self consciousness, to push myself through in completing this sketch. The first pic is a feeble attempt at inking digitally in GIMP. The second one is a scanned and cleaned up version of a pen & pocket brush ink.




Can you tell which one I felt more inspired by? If you guessed the second picture, you get to see this preview. While I was inking I began to think about what these characters appearances could say about their personalities and histories. I've been reading a lot of Dresden Codak's tumblr, including this latest Speculative DC Reboot on villians. The female character on the left really came to life for me. She's definitely a very masculine character who is unsure of how to act feminine, but outside of her duty, wants to experience courtship and romance. I'm a little wary of pandering to LGBT readers, but I think her character is truly compelling for me. The other two, are pretty prototypical master/student, stoic/goofball archtypes. I'm certain these characters should be on a quest of some kind, and I'm heavily leaning towards a tongue-in-cheek, possibly self-referential slant.

This weekend I watched Contagion, a bunch of The Wire, NCIS, and Battle Star Galactica. I was so caught up in work I forgot to watch Breaking Bad. That might, for once, be a good thing. This past week the world lost Steve Jobs. Bless you Steve Jobs for all that you were, and all you accomplished.

The Why Can't I Finish This

This is probably by far the latest I've ever posted. I'm sorry. I used up my Sunday afternoon on me things. Not that I don't normally do that, just that there was so little time to get anything into a post. This week we mourned the terribly premature loss of an icon of the comic book industry. R.I.P. Dwayne McDuffie. (via Scott McCloud). And today the Oscars took up some people's attention. Not mine. I watched Children of Men this weekend on Bryan O' Malley's suggestion. It did not disappoint. And somehow I shuffled through the backlog of links listed below.

This weekend I've been taking in the pre-winter fuzzies, that childish wooziness that accompanies being dizzied by all the hoopla of normal folk during the holiday season. Also I am a little sick still so my body is doing weird things like pumping my body full of endorphins and serotonin and allowing my voice to drop two octaves. I am taking in a lot of entertainment such as the entire Ranma 1/2 series, Callers (see below), a Dustin Harbin interview on Ink Studs, BSG, Superman Returns, Lost Season 1, Batman: The Killing Joke. I could, however, use some orange juice.
