Sinuses sore but still smiling on Sunday

Steve Wolfhard's Lifelong Anxieties is a lullaby for my restless life.

I am now a fan of Rob Davis after reading this astute discussion of raw vs. cooked art.

I really enjoy looking through this gallery if only to marvel at Jeff Cruz's steady growth as a color technician.

Speaking of technicians, did you miss this amazing 1 hour drawing by the Dharb himself? I'm a little sad to hear that diary comics are drawing to a close. But I trust that Dharbin's got something good in store for us.

What you say? Axe Cop printed by Darkhorse now?

I've been reading a lot of Stormwatch lately to see how it all boils up to The Authority, which is one of my favorite superhero books. It seems I missed a lot of good stuff. I similarly started reading the Supreme Power GN which I am thoroughly enjoying. I think this grim and gritty turn in superhero comics is the right fit in an intelligent writer's hands. I guess I would rather have the young tykes be interested in Bone, Amulet, Smile, Flight Explorer, or any one of the brilliant young readers books being put out by alternative comic creators. Kids need mysticism, humor, whimsy, exploration, and light-heartedness. The uber-mensch genre just has so little to offer IMO.

I got thoroughly engrossed in Lewis Trondheim's Little Nothings. Delightful, ephemeral just as the days are. Autobio comics seem to fill the shelves of the collector like bottles of wine, each one more palatable with age and distinct from the other. Tonight I'm watching Amarcord. How's your Sunday shaping up?

Cure for the common klutz

Now if only onions also cured colds! Oh yeah. They kinda do. This week I got hammered by my car's radiator taking a dump on me, and then waking up this Saturday with a full blown head cold. Y'know the kind where your nose burns all the way down your eustachia into the back of your throat, your body feels like somebody got you drunk then beat the shit out of you, and your brain seems to have been replaced with a suffocating gerbil.

Samhiti Blog - I can't remember who linked this to me, but I read Death Day up to the most recent chapter and found it very captivating, though at times hard to read.

This week I caught up with the 2 newer Bond films. I also watched The Dreamers which was worth the watch. Then on Saturday I had a Battlestar Galactica season 2 marathon which I kept falling asleep to on account of being sick. My playlist now also includes: The Prisoner, Venture Bros. season 2, Lost season 1, Lupin III season 1, and Gundam 0079.

For Your Health

I am going to a birthday party this afternoon, so I've got to cut things a little short this week. I hope that's not too off-putting.

So this link arrives in my email:

and I immediately call to mind:

luxyferum — May 16, 2007

but even that reminds me of:

Shikamaru250 — May 14, 2008

and leads me somewhat full circle to:

xiyakx — August 30, 2009

Can someone please explain to my brain what the common thread is in these songs?

Steve Brule - For Your Health

Yes, sometimes I draw stuff. Don't drool its just Steve Brule. Now go out and make your own technologies.

Random things I did this past week:

1) Bought a cookies and cream shake to sneak into Nightmare on Elm Street
2) Realized tickets were sold out 5 minutes before showtime and 5 minutes after I expertly hid my shake in my inner jacket pocket
3) Broke my air mouse usb receiver while trying to steal internet at work and output streaming video to the conference room hdtv.
4) Found a medium (5.75"x8") soft black cover piccadilly sketchbook for $7; eat that $20 moleskine!
5) snuck a caramel latte into Nightmare on Elm Street with tickets in hand; soon after wished I had just drank it during the car ride home and saved myself $11.
6) sketched Dr. Steve Brule (did you see it?)

This afternoon go and check out:

DHARBIN
(Dustin Harbin)
Secret Mystery Diary (Rebecca Clement)
Illustration Friday
TCAF
Super Mario Crossover

then call it a day.

See you soon.
